At the pier with Marlon Brando, I drank hot chocolate and watched the sky turn pink—but that was when we were almost done fishing. My job, before the hot chocolate, was to carry our two fishing poles, my seat pitched on the handlebars, while Marlon piloted the bike. It was just for comic relief. I think. Marlon had to handle all the tackle, bait, fishing line and all that. On the way home, we hung the fish on a chain off the rack. I knocked cyclists, joggers and pedestrians with our polls. We trailed fish juice through the bike lane. Marlon had a radio affixed to the handlebars, so I danced while we rode, swinging my ankles to Guys and Dolls. After the pier, we drove to the cheese shop and picked up a nice sheep’s milk from Auvergne. At the bodega we got green grapes and hung them alongside the fish. I added a baguette to hold over my shoulder, bonking Marlon in the head with it. We straightened our hats and rode off, running lights, stopping traffic. We’re disturbing the peace, I said to Marlon. He loved it, though. He called me doll. He said, You’re my kind of dame.

Messy it is, yes.
Since these doll collections grow, they constantly get out of hand. Well, mine do.
Spill over the edges, burst at the seams.
I will leave out the mess in the attic.
